The Connection Between Fluoride and Cavities

Fluoride is an important mineral which is found in our toothpaste and water. It is used as a preventative measure against tooth decay. Many people prefer to use fluoridated water because it is said to be safe. But what if I told you that there are actually many negative effects of fluoride? Are you aware of them?

A few decades ago, fluoride was introduced to our water system to help lessen the occurrence of tooth decay. This did help. But now we have learned about the hidden dangers of fluoride – cavities. The fact that fluoridation also helps prevent bone cancer has gone unnoticed.

According to new studies, fluoride may also cause cancer. The link was realized after analyzing the brains of children who had been exposed to fluoride. The findings indicate that those who had long-term exposure to fluoride were at greater risk of developing brain cancer. Although we cannot prove the link between fluoridated water and cancer in adults now, the long-term risks are alarming. Fluorosis is a condition where teeth become stained brown or black.

Long-term exposure to fluoride can cause dental cavities. The staining of the teeth occurs when fluoride reacts with the sugars present in saliva. This interaction can cause plaque to develop on teeth, which then becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and ultimately leads to cavities.

This process is called acidification. Over time, it can erode tooth enamel causing many cavities and even tooth loss. Fluoride is one of the most common ingredients in toothpaste. If you choose to brush without toothpaste after using it, be sure to take care not to allow the water to run through your toothbrush.

Many children today receive their first fluoridated supply when they are between the ages of two and four years. For many adults, a supplement will be added to their regular water supply around the same time. This supplement can be found at any water treatment facility. Most areas also have fluoride in their tap water. You can find fluoride tablets at many drug stores.

Although there has been much research done on the dangers of fluoride, there have not been any serious links to the substance found in public water supplies. However, if you choose not to use a fluoride supplement, you should be aware that there are still many other cavity causing factors that are within your control. Therefore, it is important to avoid sugar and salt in your diet, and brush your teeth often.

If you would like more information on fluoridated water, there are numerous web sites and books available. Many provide additional information on the health benefits as well as the dangers. Fluoride is essential for the good health of adults and children alike. Do your research and see if this addition to your water is really worth the side effects. If you have a dentist who recommends it, discuss the issue with him or her. If you have any concerns about the safety of the addition, speak to your doctor.

There have been studies that show children exposed to fluoridated water tend to suffer from dental fluorosis. Children who drink bottled water are at a definite risk. Water naturally contains fluoride, but in larger amounts than that found in publicly provided treatment systems. Bottled water companies do not add the mineral to the water in order to increase its strength and purity, so it’s a question of balance in the balance of good and bad bacteria.

When you look at the larger picture, however, fluoridated water just has no link to dental fluorosis at all. If you suffer from cavities, you need to be taking a close look at your lifestyle. Are you taking care of your teeth? Do you smoke, drink coffee or tea, or have a poor diet?

All of these things are contributing to the fact that you need to start taking better care of your mouth. The best way to go about doing this is to remove all of the naturally occurring elements from your water. You need pure water to avoid all of those nasty substances. The only solution then is to use a filtration system that removes all of those toxins as well as other impurities that may cause harm to your overall health. By using a home water filtration system, you can be sure you’re getting everything you need from your water.

If you’re already worried about the connection between fluoride and cavities, you shouldn’t be. Fluoride has actually shown connections to an increased risk of bone cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Instead of drinking fluoridated water, get a water filtration system and enjoy the benefits for all of the health benefits and peace of mind that come along with it.
